Melbourne: Shubham Jaglan and Raghav Chugh were Tied-25th and the best Indians after three rounds in the Asia-Pacific Amateur golf championships at the Royal Melbourne Golf Club.

Jaglan and Chugh, who play college golf in the United States, scored 75 and 78, to be tied 24th at 11-over.

Yuvraj Singh (78) was T-49 and the 13-year-old Kartik Singh shot 81 and dropped to 18-over and is T-54th. Shaurya Bhattacharya, who  recovered from a first day 83 with 71 on second day, carded 74 on the third and is now lying T-42.

The conditions were once again challenging with very strong winds, but there was no rain, and it was not as chilly as the first day.

China’s Zheng Sampson-Yunhe, who was born in Japan and lived for sometimes in China before moving to US, played the best golf of the week with 6-under 65 at the Par-71 course.

Sampson now has a four-shot lead, and a win here will earn him a spot in the Masters and the Open.

Six behind the leader and T-13 after two days, Sampson rose to the top with six birdies and an eagle against two bogeys. He was 3-under for three days and the only player still under par. Four shots behind is Australian Billy Dowling (73) at 1-over total of 213.

The first-round leader Kazuma Kobori of New Zealand who shot 74, and China’s Ding Wenyi (76) were tied third at 2-over 214.

Only four players brought home under-par cards on the third day.

Sampson’s round of 65 also broke a 55-year-old course record of 66 for amateurs held by Sir Michael Bonallack. Interestingly, Sampson was in the Asia-Pacific team that won the Trophy named after Michael Bonallack.

Zheng had four birdies on the first nine holes against one bogey. He then had a superb eagle three at the par-5 10th and he added birdies on the 12th and 13th before giving a shot back at the next on 14th.
