New Delhi:  On a hot Monday Shyam Lal College, University of Delhi, celebrated its Shashti Poorthi (completion of 60 glorious years) with the 61st Annual Day and Prize Distribution Function held in the campus. The occasion was marked with festivity, reflection, and pride, drawing together students, faculty, alumni, and distinguished dignitaries.

The event was graced by Smt. Rekha Gupta, Hon’ble Chief Minister of the Government of NCT of Delhi, who attended as the Chief Guest. In her keynote address, she expressed immense admiration for the institution’s journey and dynamic present. She noted that the students, faculty, and staff have collectively given birth to a “new Shyam Lal College”—an institution that stands as a symbol of determination, excellence, and innovation. The Chief Minister appreciated the college’s inclusive ethos and its growing reputation as a center for holistic development.

Sh. Manoj Kumar Tiwari, Hon’ble Member of Parliament, also addressed the gathering with heartfelt enthusiasm. Applauding the college’s evolution over six decades, he remarked that Shyam Lal College has played a significant role in shaping young minds and promoting Indian values, especially in the heart of East Delhi. He lauded the institution for nurturing a generation of socially aware, academically equipped citizens and emphasized the importance of character-building through education.

Prof. Balaram Pani, Dean of Colleges, University of Delhi, in his address, praised the progressive initiatives of the college and highlighted its consistent academic performance. He acknowledged the importance of strong institutional leadership and faculty commitment in creating an environment conducive to student success.

Smt. Savita Gupta, Hon’ble Chairperson of the Governing Body, presided over the ceremony and expressed her pride in the college’s achievements. She commended the leadership of Principal Prof. Rabi Narayan Kar, under whose guidance the college has made remarkable progress in academics, infrastructure, and institutional innovation. She assured continued support from the Governing Body in all future endeavours of the college.

Prof. Rabi Narayan Kar, Principal of Shyam Lal College, presented the Annual Report, outlining the milestones of the academic year and highlighting major accomplishments in teaching, research, outreach, and student enrichment. He expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Chief Minister, distinguished guests, faculty, and students, and reaffirmed the college’s vision of being a leading institution aligned with the ideals of NEP 2020. Prof. Kar emphasized that the 60-year journey of the college is not just a reflection of its past, but a commitment to an even brighter future.

The college was also honoured by the gracious presence of Sh. Jitender Mahajan, Hon’ble Member of Legislative Assembly (Rohtas Nagar), who attended the event as a Guest of Honour, further adding to the dignity and inspiration of the celebration.

The ceremony witnessed the felicitation of meritorious students in academics, sports, and co-curricular activities. The celebration concluded with vibrant cultural performances by students, leaving the audience inspired and proud of the college’s enduring legacy and promising future.
