Shyam Lal College and IGIPESS begin with victories in 12th Padma Shree Shyam Lal Memorial Hockey Tournament

I am from Odisha, and at the university former Indian captain and current Hockey India President Dr. Dilip Tirkey was my junior. I used to watch him play hockey a lot. It is a good thing that Shyam Lal College organizes a hockey tournament every year. Hockey should be promoted extensively across the country, including at the University of Delhi. For sports, we will provide full support from the University of Delhi to the colleges– Professor Balaram Pani, Dean of Colleges, University of Delhi

New Delhi: Shyam Lal College (Morning) and the Indira Gandhi Institute of Physical Education and Sports Sciences (IGIPESS) began their campaigns with victories in the 12th Padma Shree Shyam Lal Memorial Hockey Tournament.

The tournament was inaugurated by the chief guest, Professor Balaram Pani, Dean of Colleges, University of Delhi.

The Principal of the host Shyam Lal College, Professor Rabi Narayan Kar, honored Professor Pani, Prof. Sarita Tyagi (HOD, DPESS, DU), Dr. Jyoti Mann (Assistant Director, DUSC), Mr. Sanjeev Gautam (ACP, Shahdara), and other guests by presenting them mementos.

In the men’s category, host Shyam Lal College (Morning) defeated Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Khalsa College 8–0. Harshu scored 3 goals, Ashu scored 2, while Nand Kishore, Praveen, and Pratyush scored one goal each. Harshu was awarded Player of the Match award.

Indira Gandhi Institute of Physical Education and Sports Sciences defeated Hansraj College 7–1. For the winners, Pulkit scored 4 goals, while Chander, Shubham, and Gurmukh scored one goal each. Pulkit received the Player of the Match award.

Professor Balaram Pani, Dean of Colleges, University of Delhi, said,“I am from Odisha, and at the university former Indian captain and current Hockey India President Dr. Dilip Tirkey was my junior. I used to watch him play hockey a lot. It is a good thing that Shyam Lal College organizes a hockey tournament every year. Hockey should be promoted extensively across the country, including at the University of Delhi. For sports, we will provide full support from the University of Delhi to the colleges.”

Praising the efforts of Sports Committee Convenor V. S. Jaggi in promoting hockey and other sports, Principal, Professor Rabi Narayan Kar announced the installation of floodlights on the playing field soon, which will make it possible to hold hockey and other sporting events at night as well.
