New Delhi: Defending champions Shyam Lal College once again clinched the men’s title at the 12th Padma Shree Shyam Lal Memorial Hockey Tournament.

In the final held on Monday, Shyam Lal College defeated the Indira Gandhi Institute of Physical Education and Sports Sciences by 5–2.

Ashish Sahrawat of the winning team was named Player of the Match. Ashish Sahrawat scored two goals, while Hans Sharma, Nand Kishore, and Farman scored one goal each for the winners. For the losing team, Sheshnath and Pulkit scored one goal each.

The runner-up team Indira Gandhi Institute of Physical Education and Sports Sciences with the trophy, along with chief guest Shri Jitendra Mahajan, MLA, Rohtas Nagar; Shri Ritesh Suji, Councillor, Welcome Ward; and Principal Prof. Rabi Narayan Kar and Shri VS Jaggi of Shyam Lal College (Morning).

The chief guest of the final match, Shri Jitendra Mahajan, MLA, Rohtas Nagar; Shri Ritesh Suji, Councillor, Welcome Ward; and the Principal of Shyam Lal College (Morning), Prof. Rabi Narayan Kar, presented the trophy and awards to the players.

Encouraging the players, Shri Mahajan advised them to work hard and achieve new heights in the game of hockey. He said, “Shyam Lal College has a 40-year-old hockey tradition. I too was a student here. Whenever a hockey match was held at the university, three U-special buses with full of supporters would go. I have seen V. S. Jaggi play as a student, and now he is promoting the sport among children.”

Principal Prof. Rabi Narayan Kar thanked all the guests, congratulated the players, praised V. S. Jaggi for the excellent organization of the tournament, and expressed hope that the players would continue to work hard in the same manner.
