Indian boxes assured of six more medals, taking total to 10

Glasgow, Scotland, July 30: Six more Indian boxers progressed into the semi-finals and are now assured of a medal, bringing the total number of assured medals from boxing to 10.

Sakshi Choudhary, Arundhati Choudhary, Sachin Siwach, Ankush Yadav, Narender Berwal and Jaismine Lamboria all secured a medal after winning their quarter final bouts.

Only three men and one woman boxer failed to land a medal out of the 14 boxers Indian fielded at the Games.

India had seven medals, three gold, one silver and three bronze in 2022 in Birmingham. Only one of the seven medallists from 2022, Jasmine Lamboria is back in Glasgow.

Sakshi Choudhary had a dominant win in the women’s 51 Kg quarter finals against Caitlin Fryers of Northern Ireland. She beat her opponent in a dominant 5-0 unanimous decision in all three rounds. She will now face off against Canada’s Amber-Jane Wall for a spot in the finals.

Sakshi is a three-time Youth Boxing World Champion and had secured the Gold medal in the Women’s 54 Kg division at the World Boxing Cup in 2025 when she defeated American boxer Yoseline Perez in a unanimous 5-0 decision.

Arundhati Choudhary, who has previously won the Gold medal at the 2025 World Boxing Cup by defeating Uzbekistan’s Aziza Zokirova in the Women’s 70 Kg division put in a strong performance to ensure a medal. She beat Morgan Henderson of New Zealand in a closely contested bout to progress through to the semi-finals of the women’s 70 Kg division.

Sachin Siwach won against Treasure Moremi of Botswana in the Men’s 60 Kg division. The Indian boxer is known for his strong lateral movement and ability to maintain distance to leverage his height and reach advantage due to his impressive height of 5ft 10in that has him towering over most fighters in the division. These factors allowed him to secure a dominant 5-0 unanimous decision against his Motswana opponent and assure himself of a Commonwealth Games medal.

Ankush Yadav put on a dominant performance against Jade Micock of Seychelles in the men’s 80 kg category. The Indian boxer dictated the pace of the match from the beginning and secured a one-sided 5-0 decision to move into the semi-final bout.

Narender Berwal won by split decision against Michael Seko of Samoa in the men’s 90kg division despite receiving multiple deductions. The Indian boxer, who towers over most with a height of 6ft 4in, took on the Samoan fighting in what could be best described as a slugfest. Both fighters showcased impressive power. However, the second and third rounds saw Narender achieving a knockdown against the Samoan fighter and securing the win.

Jasmine Lamboria secured herself a medal after progressing to the semi-finals through a split decision of 4-1 by the judges. The first two rounds saw the judges closely split between the two fighters. However, a dominant third round saw Jasmine dominate Elise Glynn of England and confirm a medal.
