New Delhi: There was a time when cricket lovers used to call, Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA) ‘Delhi Daaru and Card Association’. Those days members of DDCA would enjoy liquor mostly inside the bar. In the latest development, as reported by ‘www.kheltoday.com’ on May 5,  DDCA has got the L38 Excise Licence to serve liquor in designated areas other than the bar room.

On Tuesday, Mrs. Shashi Khanna, Vice President, DDCA and member of the Club Committee, informed the members. “Dear All, I am elated to inform everyone that DDCA has also received L38 Bar Licence today. The efforts of our young and dynamic President Shri Rohan Jaitley and his vision for all round development of the Association must be appreciated. Timely help from Harish Singla, Director and his brother Shri Deepak Singla is also appreciated. Apex Council shall soon take decision on appropriate use of L38 licence in the overall interest of the Association and its members”.

Cricket, cards and liquor are three arms of the Delhi & District Cricket Association.

DDCA officials have been putting their full efforts into providing liquor in areas other than the bar room for the members, so that cricket lovers can watch live cricket matches with the taste of liquor at Arun Jaitley Stadium.

The bar at DDCA was reopened after a gap of almost eight years. It was alleged that the licence of the bar was  cancelled in 2013, because liquor was served on Dry Day (October 2, Gandhi Jayanti). Several attempts were made all these years to get the licence again, but all efforts were thrown out of the window by the authorities. Recently,  after being re-elected as President of DDCA, Rohan Jaitley had a meeting with Manish Sisodia, Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi and got the licence for the bar room.

I have seen this type of facility at Mohali’s Punjab Cricket Association I S Bindra Stadium many years back during an International Match.

Cricket lovers enjoyed cricket on big screens with liquor and snacks, sitting on the backside of spectators galleries.
