Dubai: The 16th edition of the Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship is set to start on Thursday and there are five Indian players in the field with Rakshit Dahiya alone having played the event once before. He takes on the role of the seasoned campaigner as he makes his second appearance at the AAC, while the others Anshul Mishra, Raghav Gulati, Ranveer Mitroo and Harman Sachdeva will make their debut at the championship.

The Indian players come with an advantage of sorts as Raghav Gulati resides in Dubai and can be considered a local player with regard to his experience on the Majilis Course.

Rakshit Dahiya admitted that key tips from Gulati on the tee shots have already helped him tackle the course better during his practice rounds earlier this week.

The other Indian with some experience at Majilis is Ranveer Mitroo, having played this more than four times this year, he has a clear game plan for the week.

Understanding that he does not possess the ability to hit as far as some of the other players in the field the 17-year-old plans to make the most of his short game ability that he considers the strength of his game.

Mitroo believes that for him to stand a chance this week he needs to make use of his long irons and hybrids to the maximum on the Par fours and stick to the fairways. The Par fives will also offer him a chance to pick up strokes.

Three of the five Indians are set to Tee off on the front nine on the first day, potentially the more favourable choice as it allows one to be done with the dreaded ninth hole of the Majilis course earlier in the round.

Ranveer Mitroo and Harman Sachdeva will start from the back nine and have the advantage of finding their bearings before they are required to close their day on the back nine.

Anshul Mishra will be the only Indian to have an early start, being part of the first group to Tee off the event at 6:45 AM on Thursday. The four other Indian players begin their round after 11 AM.
