New Delhi: What happened this time in the 38th Delhi State Shooting Championship held at Dr. Karni Singh Shooting Range of the capital was perhaps never before. 94-year-old shooter Kewal Krishna Sharma has won the gold medal in this competition. Famous shooter Jaspal Rana Posted K.K. Sharma’s photo on Instagram, and wrote- “Member of Delhi State Rifle Association participating in Center Fire Pistol (ISSF) 60 shot match at the young age of 94.” Apart from this, Dr. Rajpal Singh, the coach of famous shooter dadi sisters of Baghpat, also participated in this competition at the age of 75, Dr. Rajpal’s character has also been shown very important in the Bollywood film ‘Saand Ki Aankh’ made on shooter grandmothers.

Delhi State Rifle Association organized a function at Raja Ram Mohan Roy Hall, near ITO in Delhi. In this prize distribution ceremony, Mayank Bansal, DCP, Delhi Police and Manmohan Kaur, Advisor (Cost), Union Ministry of Education honored all the medal winners. DCP Mayank Bansal himself has won 3 gold medals while participating in shotgun events.

Delhi State Rifle Association Secretary Anupam Kamal said that this time in Delhi State Shooting more than 1000 shooters participated in Rifle, Pistol and Shotgun events. Shooting craze is increasing in Delhi, especially among the youth. Also, people of all ages want to shoot, want to join this sport. He said that KK Sharma is a senior shooter, but by participating in the shooting championship at the age of 94, he has really set a new example, his love for the sport of shooting at this age is commendable. K.K. Sharma participated in the 25 meter center fire pistol event and has also won the gold medal in this event.

Jaspal Singh Marwah, Vice Chairman, Delhi State Rifle Association said that this year in many shooting events, Master category for shooters above 45 years, Senior Master category for shooters above 60 years and 75 years and above. Super Senior Master Class for shooters has been started. This is expected to give more boost to the sport of shooting.

KK Sharma has been a national level shooter, his family has many national international level shooters including his son and grandsons, younger son Rajiv Sharma is currently the coach of the Indian junior pistol shooting team as well as the treasurer of DSRA. At the same time, Dr. Rajpal has also been an international shooter and has also played in the 1982 Asiad Games held in Delhi.
