NEW DELHI: Chief Minister of Delhi Arvind Kejriwal today felicitated Tokyo Olympics 2020 Bronze Medallist wrestler Bajrang Punia.
The CM expressed his happiness the way Bajrang performed at the Tokyo Olympics and congratulated him on his triumph.
The CM said that Bajrang Punia has made India proud and is an inspiration to millions of youth. His performance will inspire the players of the country and will motivate them to bring more and more medals.
The Chief Minister said that our government has established a Sports University to promote sports so that several players of international level can be produced in our country. Alongside .
Shri Arvind Kejriwal said, “I am sure that the entire nation takes pride in the feat Bajrang has achieved. He has taken the country’s name to great heights with his power packed performance. His performance will act as an example and inspire the future athletes of the country to bring more medals for the country. The Delhi Government wants to promote sports and support athletes of the region and will extend any kind of assistance that they require. In that prospect, we are also establishing the Delhi Sports University to identify talent and develop players of international standards. The University will serve a cradle and warehouse of abundant talent.”
Shri Kejriwal tweeted, “Glad to meet Olympic bronze medallist Bajrang Punia at my residence today. Bajrang has made India proud and made us all proud. You are an inspiration to lakhs of youth.”
Bajrang Punia said, “it was great to meet CM Arvind Kejriwal. The Chief Minister asked about my training; and discussed the future plans.”
The Chief Minister encouraged him to play for the country and bring a lot of medals.
Bajrang Punia’s coach, Satpal Singh, said that Bajrang Punia is now making his preparations with the target of 2024. “Youth are the assets of our country. When children like Barang Punia come forward, then only other youth will get encouragement. Bajrang Punia has been playing at the national level from Delhi itself. That’s why he had come today to take his blessings from Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.”
Earlier, Olympic Silver Medallist Ravi Dahiya had met with the Chief Minister. The CM had congratulated and felicitated Shri Dahiya on his landmark achievement. The Delhi Government has changed the name Rajkiya Bal Vidyalaya located in Adarsh Nagar, Delhi to Ravi Dahiya Bal Vidyalaya. Ravi Dahiya had completed his schooling from this Delhi Government school. Ravi Dahiya’s training was going on when there was a lockdown in Delhi. During this time, the government encouraged him and did not let his training stop. Under Mission Excellence, the Delhi Government provided training, coach and sports equipment to Ravi Dahiya.
