International Day of Yoga 2022 celebrated with the theme of ‘Yoga for Humanity’

More than three hundred participants were present in the camp at IGIPESS on Tuesday

New Delhi: Inspired by the enthusiasm of their students, teachers, staff and people of the community towards Yoga, the  Indira Gandhi Institute of Physical Education and Sports Sciences (IGIPESS)- Vikaspuri is willing to continue it’s ‘Month-long Yoga Camp for Community 2022’ throughout the year.

A month long Yoga Camp at IGIPESS, started on May 21, 2022 was organized for Community, concluded on Tuesday the  ‘International Day of Yoga’.  Shri.  Manish Sisodia, Deputy Chief Minister, Govt. of NCT of Delhi,  was invited as Chief Guest, conveyed his blessings and congratulated the organizers for the grand success of Yoga Camp.

All the people present in the camp watched Shri  Manish Sisodia doing Yoga with Shri. Arvind Kejriwal, Chief Minister Govt. of NCT of Delhi, at Tyagraj Stadium, on big screen and done same Yogasana.

This Yoga camp has become extremely popular and therefore it should be organized throughout the year. Hon’ble Chief Minister of Govt. of N.C.T. of Delhi, Shri Arvind Kejriwal Ji  launched  “Dilli ki Yogshala” to provide free of cost Yoga classes in their neighbourhood for all the people residing in the national capital in January 2022. On this occasion, Chairman of the Governing Body of  IGIPESS Shri. Surender Jaglan, Shri. Surender Kumar, Treasurer, Governing Body, Shri. Rakesh Thapliyal, Editor-in-Chief, Khel Today, were invited respectively as Guest of Honour and Special Guest to grace the occasion.  At the outset, Prof. Sandeep Tiwari, Principal presented a brief history of the Institute and achievements of the Students of this Institute.  On the occasion of International Day of Yoga, efforts put in by the Yoga Teachers and contribution of the Students of this Institute in popularizing and imbibing the Yoga culture among masses were specially mentioned. More than three hundred participants were present in the programme. 

The month long Yoga Camp for Community was supervised by the professionally qualified teachers of IGIPESS namely Prof. J.P. Sharma and Prof. Tarak Nath Pramanik.  Enthusiasm of the participants belonging to all age groups was worth praising. 

Some of the veteran participants also displayed spectacular Yogasana. The students of the Institute gave amazing display of various Yogasana . Participants of this Camp learnt a lot about the importance of Yoga in day-to-day life.  Apart from the participants from the community, Staff members and Students of IGIPESS also actively participated in this programme.  Live streaming of the said programme was available on YouTube.

  While concluding the programme, Chairman, Governing Body, Shri. Surender Jaglan expressed, “This Yoga camp has become extremely popular and therefore it should be organized throughout the year”. Shri. Rakesh Thapliyal stressed about the importance of Yoga and expected from the younger generation to actively take part in Yoga and make it a way of life.  He also narrated the potential of Yoga as a Sports and as an opportunity for employment.

Finally, while making the formal announcement of the end of the programme, Prof. Sandeep Tiwari, Chairman, Yoga Camp thanked the Guests, Teachers and Students involved in this programme and said that the Non-Teaching Staff members of the Institute had a remarkable role in the successful organization of this programme.
