Lucknow: SRM Institute of Science and Technology (SRM IST) is the defending champion in the women’s volleyball category as they won the last edition of the KIUG. SRM University IST Volleyball (Women) team Players also won the GOLD MEDAL in the All India Inter University Volleyball (W)Tournament in January this year at MG University, Kottayam, Kerala. The team yet again made its mark in the sports world by winning the Gold Medal in the South India Inter-Collegiate Invitation Volleyball Tournament held at IIT Madras, Chennai from 29th March to 02nd April 2023.

SRM has started their campaign with a win against Guru Nanak Dev University. Leading the team is Athira Roy, who is described as “the best setter in the University games” by her coach M Siva.

She started playing when she was in class 8th and according to her coach is brilliant in strategy during match situations. Siva added, “Because of her height, for her making to the Indian team is tough. But she has all qualifications to be part of the Indian team.”

Athira said: “Lucknow is a great venue and we are off to a good start. The goal is to keep up the momentum. For me leading my team is a matter of pride and we are all very hard-working. We are like a family.”
