Gumi, Korea: Gulveer Singh gave india a golden start on the first day of the asian athletics championships which began here on Tuesday.

In 10,000 meter Gulveer Singh ran a tactical race waiting till the last 300 m to sprint away from his rivals from Bahrain japan and China to claim the gold in 2838.69 seconds . Sanam Barwal ran a creditable race to finish fourth. The day began well for india with serving sebastian winning a bronze in 20 km walk for men. The gold way claimed by Wang Zhazhao in 1: 20.36 silver going to Japan’s yosukawa in 1:20.44 and serving clocking 1:21.13 all three breaking the previous championship record . In the qualifying events vishal TK clocked a pb of 46.05 to qualify for the final.

Tejaswin shankar just completed his fifth event clocking 50.10 in the 400 m to end the first day leading the decathlon with 4205 points just ahead of Maruyama of Japan.

Both indian women Rupal and Vithya ramraj qualified for the 400 m women final. Sarvesh kushare also qualified for the high jump men final.

Annu rani finished fourth in the women’s javelin final for women with a disappointing 57.80 m best throw.
