Participation of the Delhi team in such a tournament is just a beginning, the day is not far when world-champions like PV Sindhu and K. NEW DELHI: Sportspersons from Delhi are consistently performing well in various national and international tournaments. In this vein, a 20 member state badminton team is heading to participate in the North Zone Badminton Championship, which is scheduled to be held in Jammu Kashmir from September 8-11. Ahead of the championship, the Deputy Chief Minister Shri Manish Sisodia met the team on Monday, to motivate them and extended his best wishes to each member.

While interacting with team members, Shri Manish Sisodia said, “This badminton team of Delhi has been training hard for years and will now participate in the North Zone tournament and later in the National tournament. All these 20 players are future world champions who have an unwavering spirit to bring laurels to the country. They will definitely return as winners and in future they will bring many more medals from international championships.”

Shri Manish Sisodia said that badminton has recently emerged as one such sport in which our players have performed exceptionally well at the international level and brought laurels to the country. Badminton craze is on rise among Delhi youth too and to support the players, Delhi government is building world-class infrastructure for badminton all across the capital. This will ensure better training facilities for them.

He added that participation of the Delhi team in such a tournament is just a beginning, the day is not far when world-champions like PV Sindhu and K. Shrikant will come out from Delhi, who will make the whole country proud with their performance.

It is to be noted that among the 20 members going to the North Zone Badminton Championship, there are players participating in men’s category, women’s category and those under-19 category. All these players have been training for the last 8-10 years. They have been selected for this championship after many level competitions.
