New Delhi: The national capital is set to witness electrifying basketball action as the Harish Sharma 3 on 3 All India Basketball Championship 2025 returns on December 27 and 28 at the KD Jadhav Indoor Hall, Indira Gandhi Stadium Complex, New Delhi.

The tournament is being organized in memory of the legendary international basketball player and an extraordinary sports administrator late Shri Harish Sharma.

Addressing a press conference, Smt. Roopam Harish Sharma, Chairperson of the Organizing Committee of the championship, announced that this year’s edition will feature a record 80 teams — 50 men’s and 30 women’s squads — representing various states and private teams across India. The event promises high-intensity matches and a double prize purse compared to last year’s inaugural edition.

The championship will be played across four state-of-the-art basketball courts simultaneously, offering an action-packed experience for players and spectators alike. The Prithvi Nath Club (PNC), affiliated with the Delhi Basketball Association (DBA), is organizing the event, while DBA is the official host under the aegis of the Basketball Federation of India (BFI). The tournament also holds endorsement from FIBA 3×3.

The championship continues the Prithvi Nath Club’s legacy of promoting basketball through premier tournaments such as the Master Prithvi Nath All India Basketball Championship, a tribute to Shri Harish Sharma’s father.

Shri Sudhanshu Mittal, Co-Chairperson of the Organising committee congratulated Smt. Sharma and Delhi Basketball Association on receiving the FIBA approval to conduct this tournament with such a large number of teams participation.

“This format is the future of Basketball and encompasses agility, reflexes, strategy, and everything in its recipe that makes it exciting. FIBA’s approval gives this tournament the prestigious status it deserves. It is a proud moment for all basketball players and all Indians that this new future centric format has the endorsement of FIBA,” said Shri Mittal.

“Harish Sharma was the true visionary who brought NBA to Indian shores, which was not something anyone was capable of doing,” he added.

President of Delhi Basketball Association, Shri Mukesh Kalia said, “This event is a heartfelt tribute to the late Shri Harish Sharma, a legendary figure in Indian basketball and a pioneer who brought the sport to the global stage. It is a testament to his enduring legacy, continuing the path he laid down and celebrating his contributions to the game we love.”

The press conference was attended by officials from the Delhi Basketball Association, including the association’s General Secretary Shri Ashok Rangeen, Treasurer Shri Rajesh Kumar, Senior Vice President Shri Chand Rehan, and Vice President Yashasvika Sharma, alongside Smt. Arti Mehra, who is the President of the Organising Committee for the tournament.

The tournament is being supported by a number of sponsors, including the official kitting partner Shiv Naresh, on-court and off-court decorations by Rido Sports led by Mr. Sandeep Bhola. While the prize money is being sponsored by Amit Anand, a former basketball player, Zipsy is providing bags, and JagsFresh will provide nutritious refreshments for all the players. Cosco is providing basketballs while KnackPro will ensure hydration during the championship.

The Guest of Honour, Shri Aslam Sher Khan, former member of the Indian Hockey team, who in 1975 World Cup held at Kuala Lumpur, helped the India to win the gold medal, said, “I’m delighted that the 3-on-3 format, a sport that’s made its mark at the Olympic level, is gaining momentum in India. As an international player myself, I’m convinced that with the support the sport is receiving, we’ll witness India’s rapid rise in the basketball world, and I’m excited to see our country shine in the near future.”

The registration for the championship is open till 12th December after which the organizing committee will host another press-conference announcing the details including mascot etc.
