New Delhi: Harish Sharma 3×3 Basketball  Championship 2024 will be held on 28 and 29 December here at KD Jadhav Indoor Hall, Indira Gandhi Sports Complex.

This championship is organized by Delhi Basketball Association, in the memory of late Harish Sharma, an international basketball player and former Secretary General, Basketball Federation of India.

This two-day Basketball Festival will showcase the best skills, techniques, agility and capabilities of Basketball players. The enduring commitment of 40+ teams (Men and Women) along with enthralling competition with the senior players and the veterans will keep everyone totally engrossed. The 3-point shooting competition, free throw and dunk competitions will celebrate the spirit of the game.

Date: 28th and 29th December 2024.
Venue: KD Jadhav Indoor Hall, Indira Gandhi Stadium, New Delhi, Entry from Gate17.
Time: 11 am onwards.
Opening Ceremony: 28th December 2024, 12.00 PM.
Closing Ceremony: 29th December 2024, 4 PM.

According to a release of Ashok Rangeen, Secretary, Delhi Basketball Association, “It is indeed a wonderful opportunity to close this year on a befitting tribute to the Legend of Basketball, Shri. Harish Sharma, a visionary who through his exemplary leadership steered the game to reach new heights with his innovative and unique strategies to promote Basketball, in India and Overseas.
On his birth anniversary on the 28th of December, we take immense pleasure to invite you to witness the Harish Sharma 3X3 Basketball Championship for Men and Women at KD Jadhav Hall, IGI Stadium, New Delhi on 28th and 29th of December 2024, 11 am onwards.”

In order to inspire and captivate the attention of the viewers, social media platforms will live telecast this event. FIBA, the world body of Basketball 3×3 have endorsed this Championship
and will also live telecast this event in collaboration with the organizers, giving it a global perspective and wider reach.
In this regard, Doordarshan has also approved live telecast of the event as this Championship will certainly motivate all the players, fans and the organizers to set up new benchmarks in promoting Basketball centric culture in India.

About the format of 3×3

As per FIBA Rules, the format of 3×3 is very fast. Three players from each team compete in a ten-minute match. Therefore, this game is not only speedy and fast but is extremely exciting. Four matches will be conducted on each of
the courts simultaneously.

About late Harish Sharma

Harish Sharma with his hard work, dedication, perseverance and discipline rose to the position of Secretary General, Basketball Federation of India. His vision was to promote the game and leverage the Basketball standards in India.

As the CEO of Basketball Federation of India, he ventured into a partnership deal with IMG-Reliance to set the stage for a professional league. His innovative ideas to revolutionize and improve the game, he inducted foreign coaches, classified players into various categories, set up monthly salaries for players, organized strength and training programs, international exposure and camps. In order to promote the game at grassroot levels, he paved the way for school and college leagues throughout the country ensuring maximum participation.
As the Secretary General of FIBA Middle Asia, he was instrumental in inviting the FIBA World and the NBA to India, through his several endeavors. He led many Olympic missions, Commonwealth games, Asian championships across various countries as an Indian Olympic
Committee Official and Representative.
At the age of 52, unfortunately Basketbal lovers lost this visionary.All of them admire and cherish his legacy – as they miss him.
