Gurugram: The 19th HCL International Bridge Championship kick-started today with 600 participants from 7 countries.
The six-day championship includes 3 major events: The Team of Four GOLD event for “Naresh Tandan Trophy”, Team of Four SILVER event for “Mohini Tandan Trophy” and the Match Point Pairs event for “Neena Bonarji Trophy”. For those, who fail to qualify for the main events, there will also be an IMP Pairs event and other side events.
The Swiss league of Team championship started with 116 teams (45 Teams in the GOLD, 71 teams in the SILVER).

Team RL SANGHI comprising R.L. Sanghi, Asha Sharma, Prosenjit Manna, Joyrup Mullick, S.M. Moin & Sunil Kumar Sinha with 56.50 VPs (out of 60 VPs) are leading in the GOLD event. FORMIDABLES, team of internationally acclaimed Bridge player, Mrs Kiran Nadar, who is also the host of the championship, came second with 49.61 VPs.
Team LUCKY SIX comprising Indranil Chakraborty, Moloy Kumar Mondal, Raj Kumar Chowdhury, Goutam Mazumder, Sourav Sil, and Saptarshi Chanda with a score of 61.86 VPs (out of 60 VPs) lead in the SILVER event. Team SIX SPADES with 58.07 VPs came second.
2 more rounds will be played today and 5 more rounds tomorrow, after which the TOP 16 teams in the Gold & Silver event will qualify for the knock-out stage.
There will be 10 rounds of 10 board matches to be played in 2 days, after which the top 16 teams in GOLD & SILVER events will qualify for the knock-out pre-quarterfinal stage of the tournament.
