Sangeeta Jaitley inaugurated first ever women’s T20 League  organized by DDCA

New Delhi: RP Cricket Academy defeated NK Khanna Cricket Club by 44 runs in the inaugural match of DDCA T20 Women’s Cricket League here at Modern School, Barakhambha Road, ground.

Smt. Sangeeta Jaitley, wife of the legendary politician and Former President of DDCA, late Sh. Arun Jaitley and mother of DDCA President Rohan Jaitley, inaugurated the DDCA Women’s T-20 League. Mr. Ashok Sharma, Secretary, DDCA welcomed  Smt. Jaitley.

RP Cricket Academy batted first and scored 108 runs for 8 wickets in 20 overs. Tanisha Singh (45) and Medhavi Bidhuri (4 wickets for 9 runs) shine for the winners team.

In reply NK Khanna Cricket Club only managed to score 64 for 8 wickets in 20 overs.

This is first-ever Women’s T20 League that is being held in the capital city from June 9, 2025 organized by Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA).

As many 41 clubs have been divided into five groups. The matches will be played at three venues— Modern-1 – Lower Ground, Modern School, Barakhambha Road, New Delhi, Modern-2 –Upper Ground, Modern School, Barakhamba Road, New Delhi and G.G.S.C.- Guru Gobind Singh College, Pitampura.

Speaking on the development, DDCA President Rohan Jaitley said, “Today marks a monumental milestone in the journey of women’s cricket, as 41 clubs come together to participate in this highly anticipated tournament. With over 615 players aged above 14 taking the field, this event represents more than just competition—it symbolizes opportunity, progress, and the rising spirit of women’s sports. This platform offers a chance to showcase their talent, gain recognition, and take meaningful steps toward professional cricket. This club-level tournament will serve as the new foundation for women’s cricket in Delhi, nurturing the next generation of stars and strengthening the city’s presence in the national cricketing landscape.”

Speaking on the occasion, Smt. Sangeeta Jaitley said, “This is going to be a historical movement in the field of cricket as no other state association in the country has ever held a women’s T20 Tournament. Female cricketers only had limited opportunities to private tournaments to showcase their talent and this competition will encourage the young girls to join cricket.”

Talking about the tournament, the Vice president of DDCA, Ms. Shikha Kumar said, “The commitment made by the association has been fulfilled. The Secretary of DDCA Mr. Ashok Sharma promised all the support and help to the young players.”

The ceremonial toss by Mrs. Jaitley marked the passing of sporting legacy and the association’s commitment to gender inclusive cricket development.

Present on the occasion were Mr. and Mrs. C.K. Khanna, Ex-BCCI President and Ex-Vice President of DDCA, Mr. Ravinder Manchanda, Ex-Treasurer of DDCA, Directors Mr. Shyam Sunder Sharma, Mr. Tushar Saigal, Mr. Vikram Kohli, Mr. Vikas Katyal, Ms. Renuka Dua along with ex- women cricketers.

The league will provide an important platform for female players, enhancing their chances of being noticed for the DPL auction and domestic selection trials.
