Kolkata: FLO Kolkata’s event in collaboration with Kolkata Literary Meet, titled “BRING IT ON!” featured an inspiring session with Dr. Deepa Malik, India’s first female Paralympic medalist. Dr. Malik captivated the audience with her remarkable story of overcoming physica lchallenges to achieve extraordinary success in the sporting arena.

Dr. Malik, a true embodiment of strength and courage, shared her journey filled with grit, determination, and positivity. Her message resonated deeply with all in attendance, as she emphasized that resilience knows no boundaries and that dreams are meant to be pursued regardless of the obstacles one may face.

 

FLO Kolkata, in collaboration with Kolkata Literary Meet, is proud to host Padma Shri Dr. Deepa Malik for an inspiring session, “Bring It On.” As the first Indian woman to win a Paralympic medal, Dr. Malik embodies resilience, courage, and excellence. Her story is a testament to the power of determination and breaking barriers. With Nu moderating the

conversation, this event was a thought-provoking dialogue on strength, inclusion, and perseverance”, said Shradha Murarka, Chairperson, FLO Kolkata.

The session was moderated by NU. Nu is a transgender, disabled, and non-binary activist, writer, and curator, and the founder of the UN-recognized Revival Disability India, a pioneering platform rooted in disability justice and collective care.

Nu’s advocacy focuses on creating safer spaces for queer and disabled individuals, championing equity, access, and belonging. A published author with Penguin Random House,

Nu’s work has earned them the prestigious Laadli Award (2022) and recognition in Elle Magazine, UN Women Asia-Pacific, and The New York Times (2023).

As a CREA Fellow (2022) and TISS graduate in gender studies, Nu leads impactful campaigns
addressing disability-based violence, consent, and community care. They bring to this session
their expertise, compassion, and vision for justice and liberation.
In conversation with Dr Deepa Malik, NU highlighted the importance of inclusivity, advocacy for persons with disabilities, and the resilience needed to thrive against all odds. Part of FLO’s Specifically Abled Initiative and Women in Sports Initiative, this session was a
celebration of empowerment, breaking barriers, and redefining possibilities.
