New Delhi: Nisith Pramanik, Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports, launched the fourth edition of the Fit India Swachhata Freedom Run at the Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium in New Delhi today. The campaign will be held from October 1 to 31, 2023, with the aim to encourage fitness and help people get freedom from obesity, laziness, stress, anxiety, and diseases.


Citizens will be urged to include 30 minutes of physical fitness in any form and celebrate achievements of their active lifestyle with a clarion call of “Swachh Bharat, Swasth Bharat”. The campaign began with1 a Plog Run in Delhi starting from Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium (MDCNS) to Mathura Road and culminating at MDCNS to celebrate Mahatma Gandhi’s birth anniversary.

The Fit India Freedom Run 4.0 is proposed to culminate with a Unity Run in Kevadia, Gujarat on 31st October 2023.
The Fit India Freedom Run was conceived in 2020 when the entire nation started following social distancing as a new lifestyle norm. The first edition of the campaign was held from 15th August to 2nd October 2020 in virtual mode. Individual participants/organisers registered their runs on the Fit India portal (fitindia.gov.in) and the organisers were obliged to provide the data regarding the number of participants who ran/walked and the number of kilometres covered. More than 6 crore people participated in the 1st Freedom Run campaign covering 18 crore kms.


The second edition of the Fit India Freedom Run was organised under Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav (AKAM) initiative, wherein both physical as well as Virtual runs were organised throughout the country and themed on one of the pillars of AKAM i.e. “Resolve@75”. The campaign incessantly ran for 51 days from 13th August to 2nd October 2021 where a humungous response was captured with cumulative participation of more than 9 crores covering 20 crores kms.


The third edition of Fit India Freedom Run 3.0 was organised from 2nd October 2022 to 31st October 2022 in confluence under the AKAM initiative. Citizens were urged to explore inculcate 30 minutes of physical fitness in any form, celebrate achievements of active lifestyle and make it resolve in their lives i.e. “Azadi ke 75 saal, fitness rahe bemisaal.

The campaign began with a Plog Run in Delhi (from Red Fort to Rai Ghat) to celebrate Mahatma Gandhi’s birth anniversary and culminated with a Unity Run at the iconic Statue of Unity in Kevadia, Gujarat on 31st October 2022.
The Fit India Freedom Run 4.0 is open to all citizens, regardless of age or gender. Participants can register for the run on the Fit India portal (fitindia.gov.in). The run can be completed in any form, such as walking, running, cycling, swimming, or yoga.
