NEW DELHI:Double Crown for Delhi Football Club in the Delhi Government’s Shaheed Bhagat Singh Football Cup 2022 which concluded on Wednesday. In the Under-18 category Delhi Football Club beat Sudeva FC 2-1 and beat Chhatrasal football club 3-0 in the Under-22 category. Winners of the cup were felicitated by Deputy Chief Minister Shri Manish Sisodia at Thyagraj Stadium.

Top clubs from Delhi participated in this mega tournament which competed in a Round Robin League format. The league received an overwhelming response from clubs all over Delhi. The tournament was played with a rigour in both U-18 and U-22 categories. Out of these nail biting matches, the 2nd place in U-18 category was obtained by Sudeva Football Club, 3rd place in U-18 category was obtained by Garhwal Football Club and in the U-22 category the 3rd place was bagged by Sudeva Football Club.

A prize money of Rs 5 lakhs was awarded to the winning teams whereas Rs 2.5 lakhs and Rs 1 lakh was awarded to the runner-up teams and to the 3rd position teams respectively.

Shri Jose Maria Radao Dominiquez, Spanish Ambassador and Ms Elena Parez Villanueva, Deputy Head of Mission also joined the Deputy Chief Minister at the closing ceremony of the football cup. Other esteemed guests at the event were Commonwealth Games 2022 winners wrestler Ravi Dahiya and athlete Tejaswin Shankar along with Kasturba Nagar MLA Madan Laal.

While addressing the footballers and sports enthusiasts at the stadium, Deputy Chief Minister Shri Manish Sisodia said, “I congratulate the teams for putting up a great show throughout the tournament. Over the past one month, the government organized this mega football event at its various sports facilities namely, Thyagraj Stadium, East Vinod Nagar Sports Complex, Rajiv Gandhi Stadium, Bawana, Pitampura Artificial Football Turf and Sudeva Football Ground to inculcate the passion of football among athletes all around Delhi. Excitement at the stadium today is the proof of the fact that Delhi is set to be the leader of football in future.” He added that with the football cups and tournaments like these the Kejriwal government envisions to develop a sports culture in the schools and colleges of Delhi, on the lines of countries across the world. It aims to organize sports tournaments as per standards of international league to provide the required exposure to the budding sports persons.

Keeping sports at priority, the Kejriwal government has enhanced its infrastructure facilities at various stadiums. Besides this, 3 International standard artificial football grounds at Kair, Mundela and Anandwas have also been developed to instill the passion of football among athletes all around Delhi, added Shri Manish Sisodia.
