Bajaj Foundation win cliffhanger at DGC Members League

NEW DELHI:Bajaj Foundation won a crunch seventh and final game to beat   TeeM EDC on day-5 of the Delhi Golf Club Members League – powered by RADICO’ at the historic Delhi Golf club here today. Bajaj Foundation tallied  8 points for their win while TeeM EDC had to settle for 6 points.

Bajaj Foundation had a forgettable start to their round, losing the first game. However, they didn’t let this affect them and came back in style to win the next three games.  Not one to be left behind, TeeM EDC went on to register wins in the fifth and sixth games. This took the match into a crunch deciding seventh game, which Bajaj Foundation won with aplomb.

In the opening clash of the day between Sudhir Power and Christies Golf, Sudhir Power drew first blood winning the first two games. Christies fought back to win the third, but Sudhir Power recovered lost ground to win the fourth game. Not willing to give up, the duo of Bikram Singh and Sonal Chaudhri of Christie’s won the fifth game for their team but Sudhir Power drove the nail into the coffin winning the last two games to bag 10 points, as against their opponents’ tally of four points.

In the second match of the day between Sterling Swingers and Bharat Strikers, Sterling Swingers started off with a bang winning the opening game. Bharat Strikers pulled off a win in the second game and the third game was tied. Thereafter, it was Sterling Swingers all the way, with three straight wins  in the next three games. Bharat  Strikers managed to win the seventh game to pocket 5 points as against Sterling Swingers’ tally of 9 points.

The Baale Golf and Tee Birds match, the third of the day, witnessed joint defending champions Tee Birds win the first game.  Baale Golf covered lost ground with a win in the second. Tee Birds then stepped on the gas and registered wins in the third and fourth games to go two-up with three to play. Baale Golf fought back to win the fifth. The sixth was levelled thanks to a brilliantly executed putt by 14-year old Aditya Misra on the 18th and final hole. A win for Baale Golf in the seventh game ensured that the scores were tied with both teams pocketing 7 points each.

In the final clash of the day between Eagles & Birdies and Bliss Golfers, Eagles & Birdies registered a hat-trick of wins in the first three games.  Bliss Golfers won the fourth but Eagles & Birdies came back to win the fifth.  Bliss Golfers showed tremendous resilience and fighting spirit to win the final two games but this came too late in the day.  Eagles & Birdies finished with 8 points while Bliss Golfers had to settle for 6 points.
