 New Delhi: The duo of Shalini Malik and SIdharth Talwar of The A-Team scripted history by registering a stunning 9&8 win in their game against TeeM EDC on day-10 of the Fourth Edition of the ‘Lloyd Delhi Golf Club League powered by Radico’. This win margin is the biggest in the history of the League. The A-Team won the contest 4-2.

 

In the fourth contest of the day between The A-Team and TeeM EDC, the duo of Shalini Malik and Sidharth Talwar broke the tie jinx that seemed to have afflicted the two teams to secure a record 9&8 win in the fifth game against the duo of  Ravi Upadhyaya and Ajay Anand of TeeM EDC.  Earlier, Kajal Jindal and KK Bajoria took The A-Team to a win in their opening game of the day against Aditya Singh Judge and Mohan Soi.  TeeM EDC won the second game but the A-Team came back to win the third.  TeeM EDC then pulled back with a win in the fourth game.  With the fifth game going in The A-Team’s favour, the duo of Gaurav Sharma and Sumant Chadha beat the duo of Ambarish Jaipuria and Anil Gupta to take The A-Team to a 4-2 win and earned them 3 points.

In the opening match, between Twenty Fore Lions and Ardee Masters, Dhruv Kumar and Akash Sharma of Twenty Fore Lions beat Raman Narula and Rajendra Rathore to gain an early lead.  The following game was tied but Twenty Fore Lions registered wins in the third and fourth games to take an unassailable lead.  Ardee Masters won the fifth game thanks to valiant effort by Shiv Suri and Navin Vacher who beat  R Anand and Vineet Lal but Twenty Fore Lions came back to win the final game and the match 4-1.  They bagged three points for their win.

The match between Swing K Kings and Bajaj Foundation was tied.  The two teams alternated wins right from the start.  Bajaj Foundation won the first game courtesy Tarun Mehrishi and. Vikas  Dhull  who beat Dr. Bharat Aggarwal and Aditya Pratap Tripathi of Swing K Kings.  Keshav Kapoor and Sanjay Kapur of Swing K Kings won the second game against Arvind Sethi and Sonny Iqbal of Bajaj to lkevel scores.  Thereafter, both teams won two games apiece (Bajaj Foundation – games 3 and 5 & Swing K Kings – games 4 & 6) to tie the match 3-3.

In the third match against Tee Birds and Eagles & Birdies, Tee Birds’ Owner Pia Sahni teaming up with Angad Kumar beat the Owner of Eagles & Birdies, Kamal Aggarwal and Arvind Chatrath to point their team in the right direction.  The Eagles & Birdies duo of Rajan Kapoor and Tanuj Taneja beat Sarvpreet Singh and Arpito Mukerji to level scores.  Tee Birds won the third game but Eagles & Birdies registered wins in the fourth and fifth to take the match into an exciting sixth and final game. This is when Varun Raj Khanna and Gandharva Kohli of Tee Birds, won a close match against Anshuraj Khanna and Gurdeep Singh of Eagle & Birdies to tie scores at 3-3.

In the final clash of the day, Christie’s Golf scripted what is now the third wire-to-wire win of the tournament beating Shiva in six out of six games.  5-time National Champion Vikramjit Singh and Prem Dugal of Christie’s Golf led the way beating  SK Nahar and Pooja Ahluwalia in the opening game.  Shiva couldn’t recover from there and went on to lose all the remaining five games to hand Christie’s Golf a 6-0 win and 3 points.

The League is being played on a four-ball better ball Matchplay Format and over two stages – a Round Robin stage followed by a Knock-out stage. During each playoff match between two teams in the Round Robin stage, each team will field 6 pairs (12 players). One pair from each team will play against a pair from the other team in the above-mentioned format, with all the players playing off 90% of their original handicaps. The teams will get points for their wins. The 24 teams have been divided into 4 groups. After the Round Robin stage, during which the teams from one group will compete against each other. The top two teams from each group will qualify for the Knock-out stage starting with the Quarter-finals. In the Knock-out Stage the matches between two teams will be contested by seven  pairs (14 players). The Finals, as mentioned earlier, will be played on 26th October, 2024.
