‘The Pioneers’ pip ‘Christie’s Golf’ to group pole position.

New Delhi:The Pioneers’ braved a spirited fight-back from ‘Christie’s Golf’ to win the play-off and top their group on Day-12 of the ‘Lloyd Delhi Golf Club League – Powered by Radico’.  ‘The Pioneers’ tallied 8 points as against 7.5 by ‘Christie’s Golf.

Both teams have qualified for the knock-out stage with ‘The Pioneers’ aggregating 63.5 points and ‘Christie’s Golf’ totaling 61.5 points thus far for the tournament.

‘The Pioneers’ took an early advantage today, winning their first two matches in the third play-off of the day.  ‘Christie’s Golf’ came back to win the third match and the fourth ended in a tie.  ‘The Pioneers’ bounced back with a win in the fifth match and despite ‘Christie’s Golf’ winning the sixth and seventh matches, the red crusaders had to conceded defeat to ‘The Pioneers’ who nudged ahead with 8 points as against their opponent’s 7.5 points.

The opening play-off between ‘The A-Team’ and ‘TeeM EDC’ ended with both teams tying at 7.5 points apiece.  ‘The A-Team’ started off in style winning the first two matches but ‘TeeM EDC’ came back to win the third, fourth and fifth matches.  The sixth match was tied and ‘The A-Team’ managed to level scores with a win in the seventh and final match. Both teams failed to qualify for the  knock-out stages.

The second play-off too witnessed a tie between the two competing teams ‘Baale Golf’ and ‘Bliss Golfers’.  ‘Bliss Golfers’ won the first two matches, but ‘Baale Golf’ partially recovered lost ground with a win in the third match.  After a tied fourth match, ‘Baale Golf’ registered wins in the fifth and sixth matches to go one up.  ‘Bliss Golfers’ fought back to win the seventh match to tie scores at 7.5 points apiece and qualify for the knock-out stage.

In the fourth and final play-off, ‘SwingKKings’ carded 10 points to beat ‘Ardee Masters’ who managed only 5.5 points.  “Ardee Masters’ started on the right note with a win in the first match.  ‘SwingKKings’ however more than snatched the advantage back with wins in the next four matches.  ‘Ardee Masters’ came back to win the sixth game and the seventh was tied by both teams.  Both teams failed to qualify for the  knock-out stages.

With 22 teams and 12 days of action to go in the round-robin stage, the field is very open and golf lovers are in for some scintillating golf.  The League, being played at the historic par-72 Delhi Golf Club course, features 15 days of hard-fought golf and will conclude in a Grand Finale on November 4, 2023.  

The tournament is being played on a ‘Four-ball better-ball Matchplay’ Format.  The League will be played in two stages – a Round Robin stage followed by a Knock-out stage. During each playoff match between two teams, each team will field 7 pairs (14 players). One pair from each team will play against a pair from the other team in a “Four-ball better-ball” Matchplay format with all the players playing off 75% of their original handicaps. The teams will get points for their wins. The 22 teams have been divided into 4 groups. After the Round Robin stage, 2 teams from each group will qualify for the Knock-out stage starting with the Quarter-finals.  The Finals will be played on November 4, 2023.

The A-Team (7.5 pts.) tied with TeeM EDC (7.5 pts.)

Baale Golf (7.5 pts.) tied with Bliss Golfers (7.5  pts) 

 

Play-off 3:

The Pioneers (8 pts) bt. Christie’s Golf (7.5 pts.)

 

Play-off 4:

SwingKKings (10 pts) bt. Ardee Masters (5.5 pts.).
