New Delhi: India will lock horns with Afghanistan in the 9th match of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 at the iconic Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on October 11, 2023. India got off to a flying start in the tournament, defeating the five-time champions Australia by six wickets. Despite a shaky start, Virat Kohli and KL Rahul’s brilliant partnership ensured a comfortable victory. On the other hand, Afghanistan faced a setback against Bangladesh, with their batting line-up struggling against spin, ultimately losing by six wickets. Afghanistan has never managed to defeat India in an ODI, making India favourites to win this contest. Cricket fans can catch all the action live on the Star Sports network and on Disney+ Hotstar in multiple language feeds.

All eyes will be on Virat Kohli, who is playing at his home ground in Delhi. The services of lead spinner Kuldeep Yadav, who is familiar with the venue from his time with Delhi Capitals will also be an added advantage. Afghanistan, on the other hand, has quality spinners who will look to exploit the track.

India enters this match as the favourite, given their experience and form. Captain Rohit Sharma has emphasized the need to adapt to varying conditions, and this match at Arun Jaitley Stadium will test their adaptability. Afghanistan, however, is not one to be underestimated, with their spin arsenal. The FSK ground is expected to offer a batting-friendly pitch, in contrast to the track at Chepauk. The smaller dimensions of the ground will favour stroke play, making it an enticing prospect for the batsmen.

With Shubman Gill side-lined due to dengue, Ishan Kishan gets another opportunity to open alongside Rohit Sharma. Both Kishan and Shreyas Iyer are likely to be more cautious after their questionable shot selection in the previous game. Kishan’s performance will be crucial, especially considering the upcoming clash against Pakistan.
