New Delhi: ‘Breaking the Barriers: Unheard stories of India’s Paralympic Heroes’ a groundbreaking book chronicling the inspiring journey of all 26 Indian Paralympic medalists to date, has been officially launched at Hotel Ashok on Friday. Authored by veteran sports journalists Abhishek Dubey & Mahavir Rawat. This book is published by Konark Publishers, the book is a significant contribution to the literature on Indian sports, particularly in the underrepresented field of para sports. The foreword of this remarkable work has been penned by the Honorable Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Shri Yogi Adityanath.

Mahavir Rawat, an ex-NDTV Sports correspondent and anchor, has been at the forefront of reporting on para sports in India. He has been appointed as the Press Attaché for the Paris 2024 Paralympics. His deep connection without me the world of para athletes and his dedication to bringing their stories to the forefront is evident throughout the pages of Breaking the Barriers.

At the launch function Mahavir said, “I am very thankful to Abhishek Dubey sir and Konark Publishers for giving me this opportunity. It is with their support that Breaking the Barriers could take shape. I have been very close to these para players, and it’s like one big family for me. These are stories of great inspiration and determination, and I hope everyone reads and gets inspired.” 

The book has already garnered praise from some of the country’s leading para athletes. Sumit Antil, a Paralympic gold medalist, expressed his admiration for the work, stating, “There are very few journalists who have covered the life and struggles of para athletes. I have known Mahavir Rawat for seven years, and like me, he has closely watched the journey of many para athletes. I hope people read this book to understand our athletes and the people who have shaped these champions.”

Deepa Malik, another prominent figure in Indian para sports, also praised the book, remarking, “This is the first book on para athletes. Some stories about other athletes are very new to me too. Mahavir Rawat and Abhishek Dubey have been at the forefront of the para movement in the country, and I am sure Breaking the Barriers will be a scintillating and inspiring read for everyone.”
