New Delhi: Paralympian Devendra Jhajhariya unanimously elected President of Paralympic Committee of India (PCI) here on Saturday, following a seamless electoral process overseen by Umesh Sinha, IAS (Retd), Former Secretary General of the Election Commission of India (ECI).

The election of Devendra Jhajhariya heralds a new era for the Paralympic Committee of India, promising exponential growth, inclusivity, and excellence in para sports throughout the nation.

Umesh Sinha, serving as the Returning Officer, lauded the conduct of the elections, stating, “Having served in the Election Commission of India for 14 years and having conducted elections for various sports bodies, I can confidently affirm that these are the best and most smooth elections I have presided over. I extend my heartfelt congratulations to all the elected members on their successful campaign.”

In his address upon being elected, Devendra Jhajhariya, a distinguished Paralympic medalist, outlined his ambitious vision for Indian para sports. “This marks a pivotal moment for Indian para sports. With unwavering dedication, I am confident that India will surpass the mark of 30 medals in the upcoming Paris Paralympics,” declared Jhajhariya. “Our focus will be on promoting and developing para sports in every district of the country, aligning with the visionary goals set forth by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. We are committed to ensuring accessibility and inclusivity for every Divyangjan across our nation.”

Outgoing President Deepa Malik gracefully passed on the mantle to Jhajhariya and expressed her unwavering confidence in his leadership. “It is a great honor for me to hand over the baton to another distinguished Paralympic medalist. I firmly believe that Devendra will continue the exceptional work initiated by the previous team,” remarked Malik.

New Delhi: We are pleased to announce the results of the today’s PCI Election conducted on 09.03.2024 at India Habitat Centre, Lodhi Estate, New Delhi, for the Paralympic Committee of India. Following a rigorous and transparent election process, the new leadership team has been declared, marking a new chapter in the development of para sports in India.
