New Delhi: Indian Powerlifters won a flurry of 10 medals that includes 7 gold, 2 silver and 1bronze, in the 8-Nation British Open International Powerlifting Championship. Ritesh Dogra led the Indian medal hunt by winning 4 gold medals in 90 kg open category.

This performance was made possible Under the able guidance of international coach Dronacharya awardee Bhupender Dhawan.

This prestigious championship held from 13 to 15 May, 2022 at English county Derbyshire. Besides India, Powerlifters from England, Ireland, Germany, Italy, Scotland, Austria and Sweden participated in the championship.

Ritesh Dogra led the flurry by winning 4 gold medals in 90 kg open category followed by Lekhraj winning 2 gold medals and 1 silver medal; Manpreet Singh winning 1 gold medal, 1 silver medal and 1 bronze medal in Masters category.

Expressing happiness over the medal winning performances by Indian Powerlifters, Bhupender Dhawan congratulated the Indian Powerlifters and morally boosted other Indian Powerlifters as well with whom he has high hopes that they will improve their performance in the next championship. He also congratulated the parents of the winners.d

Indian coach Bhupender Dhawan and Powerlifters dedicated their medals to the ‘KHELO INDIA’ programme, an initiative of Prime Minister Shri. Narendra Modi. This scheme is a great inspiration for the Indian youth.
