Paris Olympian Raiza one off the pace in Suhl

New Delhi: Paris Olympian Raiza Dhillon, shot rounds of 24, 23 and 24 for a tally of 71 on day one of qualifications in the women’s skeet competition of the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) Junior World Cup in Suhl, Germany, on Wednesday. In the process, ended the day one off the pace in fourth spot, brightening her prospects of making the final with two more rounds of qualification or 50 targets remaining to be played.

It was a Britain 1-2 at the top with Madeleine Russel and Phoebe Bodley-Scott leading the pack with a score of 72. Tereza Milkova of the Czech Republic was a spot above Raiza on countback currently.

Among the other Indians in the fray, Yashasvi Rathore and Vanshika Tiwari shot scores of 66 each to be ranked 15th and 16threspectively. Mohika Sisodiya was further down with 57.

In the junior men’s skeet, national junior champion Ishaan Singh Libra was the best Indian on show with a tally of 69 after three rounds. He was placed 22nd while Harmehar Lally was 27th with 68 and Zorawar Bedi 31st with 67.

In the 10m air pistol junior men’s final, 15-year-old Chirag Sharma ended fourth, missing out narrowly on a medal. He bowed out on a total of 197.6 after the 20th shot of the 24-shot final.

Chirag had shot 574 in qualification to make it to the top-eight in seventh spot. He fought throughout the final recovering from positions when it seemed all was lost, but could not hold on in the end.

Shubham Bisla (572-12th), Anshul (567-33rd), Daksh Chaudhary (567-34th) and Pushpender Singh (560-55th) were the other Indians in fray.
