New Delhi: On National Sports Day 2025, Special Olympics Bharat – Delhi celebrated the legacy of Major Dhyan Chand ji here at Maitreyi College with over 200 athletes with intellectual disabilities showcasing their talent in athletics, bocce, basketball and more.

The event was graced by Dr. Mallika Nadda, President, Special Olympics Bharat, Dr. Upasana Arora (President, SOB Delhi), Mr. Anil Sharma (MLA & Patron Member), Mrs. Anupam Sood (Treasurer, SOB Delhi), Mr. Prateek Raj (SDM South-West Delhi & Guest of Honour), Mr. Vikram Singh Rawat (Area Director, SOB Delhi), Ms. Ekta Jha (Joint Director Sports, SOB) and Ms. Shipra Verma (Head of Sports Department). In his special address, Mr. Prateek Raj commended the efforts of SOB Delhi and pledged his continued support, inspiring athletes, coaches and volunteers alike.

The celebration reflected the true spirit of Unified Sports friendship, respect and inclusion through the power of play.

Dr. Nadda wrote on FB post “Today, on National Sports Day, we came together at Maitreyi College, Delhi to celebrate the spirit of sports through Unified Sports with Special Olympics Bharat athletes. As we remember the legendary hockey wizard Major Dhyan Chand ji, we also renew our pledge to achieve Inclusion through the Power of Sports. When athletes with and without intellectual disabilities play together, barriers dissolve, friendships grow, and the true spirit of unity shines through. Thanks to Shri. Anil Sharma ji, Anu Sood ji, Upasana Arora ji, Shri. Prateek Raj ji, SDM, Vasant Vihar, for being a part of the celebrations.”

She also wrote, “I also extend my congratulations to all our Special Olympics Bharat state chapters across the country who are celebrating National Sports Day with the same passion and commitment. Together, we are carrying forward the vision of our founder, Air Marshal Denzil Keelor sir. On this day, let us embrace the call of Each One Reach One and build a future where sports unite every individual.”
