Lucknow/Delhi, May 21, 2023: Dr.  Navneet Sehgal, Additional Chief Secretary, Sports and Youth Affairs, Government of Uttar Pradesh (UP), visited Dr. Karni Singh Shooting range on the outskirts of the national capital, to oversee preparations ahead of the 3rd Khelo India University Games (KIUG) 2022 Uttar Pradesh, scheduled to be held between May 25-June 03, 2023. While the Shooting discipline will be held in Delhi, the other 20 sporting disciplines will be held across four cities of UP including Lucknow-the state capital, Varanasi, Gorakhpur and Noida. 

Sharing his thoughts after the visit, Shri. Sehgal said, “The national rifle shooting championships are taking place here so I think in another day or so all the preparations will be made. But yes we are close and we should be ready to give them international facilities for sporting as well as accommodation, transportation and catering. So we are trying to provide that. It is a big event for the state. For the first time a national level multi-sport event is taking place here. It will encourage local sportspersons to do better in life and go ahead with sports as a career.” 

This will be also be the first edition of the KIUG which will see water-sports action in the form of Rowing at the Water Sports Academy in Gorakhpur. The opening ceremony is scheduled in Lucknow on the May 25, 2023, while competitions begin on May 23, 2023, with Kabaddi in Noida. The opening ceremony will see the presence of the Hon. Prime Minister, who will appear virtually.
