Gurugram: Day 1 of the 19th HCL International Bridge Championship witnessed 45 teams participating in the Gold event and 71 teams in the Silver event, completing five rounds of the Swiss League. On Day 2, the participants continued with the rest of the 5 rounds of the Swiss league. The knockout stage of the tournament will commence Thursday.
At the end of 8 rounds, team TORNATAE comprising Prasad Keni, Uttam Gupta, Gopinath Manna, NRK Moorthy & Anindya Bhattacharya with a score of 113.54 VPs (out of 160 VPs) is leading in the GOLD event. FORMIDABLES team is in the 2nd position with 113.33 VPs and the TEXAN ACES team is in 3rd position with a score of 111.86 VPs.
In the SILVER event, LUCKY SIX comprising Indranil Chakraborty, Moloy Kumar Mondal, Raj Kumar Chowdhury, Goutam Mazumder, Sourav Sil and Saptarshi Chanda is leading with a score of 141.95 VPs. Out of 160 VPs, SIX SPADES with 122.33 VPs are in 2nd position and PRADEEP is in 3rd position with 118.33 VPs.
On Day 3 of the championship, the top 16 teams in GOLD & SILVER events will play the Pre-Quarterfinal knock-out matches, whereas the Open match point Pairs event will start for the players of the non-qualifying teams. Around 250+ pairs are expected to participate in the event.
