Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur inaugurates Delhi Olympic Games 2024

New Delhi: Union Sports Minister Shri Anurag Singh Thakur inaugurated Delhi Olympic Games 2024 here at Talkatora Indoor Stadium.

Shri Thakur said that these games will provide platform to the State level players to perform and show their skill. He said, “Country’s sports budget is 3 times more than that of 2014. 1000 crores are allocated to Khelo India alone. This is not a trivial matter.”

Delhi Olympic Association is Organizing “Delhi Olympic Games 2024” from 7th to 13th February 2024. A Total of 45 games will be held at 38 different venues and over 9000 athletes are taking part.

Shri Sanjeev Sharma,  organizing Secretary of Delhi Olympic Games said “Opening ceremony was very successful as more than 7000 athletes and sports officials were present on Wednesday at NDMC Talkatora Stadium, New Delhi. Shri. Anurag Singh Thakur gave inspiring speech and athletes were thrilled with his presence.”

Opening ceremony was  presided over by Shri. Virender Sachdeva, Chairman, Organizing Committee.The guest of honour  Brand Ambassador and Olympic medal winner Wrestler Shri. Yogeshwar Dutt and Actor and former Netball Player Ms. Prachi Tehlan were also present.

Shri. Kuldeep Vats, President, Delhi Olympic Association greeted and welcomed guests, athletes and sports officials.

Shri Thakur said”Our PM says ‘if you play, you will blossom’. Khelo India Youth Games, Khelo India University Games, Khelo India Winter Games and Khelo India Para Games, more than 17000 players participate in these different events and there are many players who go on to reach the Asian Games, Commonwealth Games and Olympic Games. Have arrived.I have full confidence that my young players, who are going to participate today in the Delhi Olympic Games 2024 organized by the Delhi Olympic Association, can win medals for their state as well as the entire country in the future.”

” There are 23 National Centers of Excellence running through the Government of India, where the Government of India bears all the expenses of accommodation, food and training of the players. The Target Olympic Podium Scheme has been a transformative initiative that has significantly increased support for elite athletes. Similarly, the ‘Khelo India’ scheme is paramount in finding and nurturing talent from the grassroots level, ” he said.
