Siddharth Sahni played out of his skin to take ‘TEE BIRDS’ to a win against ‘Bajaj Foundation’ at the LLOYD Delhi Golf Club League – Powered by RADICO.

New Delhi: The mother – son duo of Pia and Siddharth Sahni won the crucial fifth match in their play-off, to take ‘TEE BIRDS’ to a close-fought win against ‘Bajaj Foundation’ on Day-9 of the ‘Lloyd Delhi Golf Club League – Powered by Radico’  being played at the historic par-72 Delhi Golf Club. ‘TEE BIRDS’ tallied 9.5 points as against ‘Bajaj Foundations’ 6 points.

In the first play-off of the day between’ TEE BIRDS’ and ‘Bajaj Foundation’, the opening two matches were tied. ‘TEE BIRDS’ surged ahead with a win in match three, but ‘Bajaj Foundation’ drew even with a win in the very next match.  

This is when Pia and Siddharth Sahni (also Owners of Team TEE BIRDS), beat Navneet Singh and Arvind Sethi of ‘Bajaj Foundation’ on the 14th hole.  Their win changed the momentum in favour of ‘TEE BIRDS’ who won the sixth match and despite losing the seventh match finished with 9.5 points as against ‘Bajaj Foundation’s’ 6 points.

In the second play-off, ‘Deutsche Motoren’ tallied 9 points to beat ‘Bharat Strikers’ who finished with 7 points. ‘Bharat Strikers’ started off with a win in the opening match but lost the next three matches on the trot to a resurgent ‘Deutsche Motoren’.  ‘Bharat Strikers’ came back to win the fifth and sixth matches but a tie won the seventh and final match handed ‘Deutsche Motoren’ a win on the basis of points collected through byes.

In the third and final play-off, ‘Dayal Opticals’ steamrolled ‘MMG Coca-Cola’ with the winning team tallying 12.5 points against the losing team’s 3 points.

Dayal Opticals won the first four matches and post a tied fifth match, they registered another win in the sixth match.  ‘MMG Coca-Cola’ had to settle for a consolation win in the seventh and final match.

With 22 teams and 12 days of action to go in the round-robin stage, the field is very open and golf lovers are in for some scintillating golf.  The League, being played at the historic par-72 Delhi Golf Club course, features 15 days of hard-fought golf and will conclude in a Grand Finale on November 4, 2023.  

The tournament is being played on a ‘Four-ball better-ball Matchplay’ Format.  The League will be played in two stages – a Round Robin stage followed by a Knock-out stage. During each playoff match between two teams, each team will field 7 pairs (14 players). One pair from each team will play against a pair from the other team in a “Four-ball better-ball” Matchplay format with all the players playing off 75% of their original handicaps. The teams will get points for their wins. The 22 teams have been divided into 4 groups. After the Round Robin stage, 2 teams from each group will qualify for the Knock-out stage starting with the Quarter-finals.  The Finals will be played on November 4, 2023.

Deutsche Motoren (9 pts.) bt. Bharat Strikers (7  pts)

Dayal Opticals  (12.5 pts) bt. MMG Coca-Cola (3 pts.).
