Rookies ‘Bharat Strikers’ show the way with third straight win.

New Delhi: Rookie team ‘Bharat Strikers’ registered their third straight win on Day-7 of the ‘Lloyd Delhi Golf Club League – Powered by Radico’  being played at the historic par-72 Delhi Golf Club. The League debutants, beat fellow League debutants ‘Golf Code  tallying 9 points to the latter’s 7.5 points.

‘Bharat Strikers’ pulled off a win in the opening match but ‘Golf Code returned the favour in the second match.  The third match was once again won by ‘Bharat Strikers’ with ‘Golf Code leveling scores by winning the fourth match. Pulling their game together. ‘Bharat Strikers’ managed to win the fifth and sixth matches and despite losing the last match, sailed home to a win.

In the first play-off of the day, ‘Deutsche Motoren’ tallied 9.5 points to beat ‘Shiva’ who could manage only 7 points.  ‘Deutsche Motoren’ began with a win in the first match, but ‘Shiva’ pulled back with back-to-back wins in the second and third matches.  ‘Deutsche Motoren’ fought back to win the fourth and fifth matches, but ‘Shiva’ threw the hat in the ring again with a win in the sixth match.  ‘Deutsche Motoren’ then nudged ahead with a win in the seventh and final match.

In the third play-off of the day, ‘Sterling Swingers’ registered a thumping win over ‘Royal Ranthambore Athletic Drive’ tallying 11 points to their opponent’s tally of 5 points.  ‘Sterling Swingers’ began with back-to-back wins in their first two matches., but ‘Royal Ranthambore Athletic Drive’ leveled scores with wins in the third and fourth matches.  ‘Sterling Swingers’ returned the favour with wins in the fifth and sixth matches and with the seventh match tied, went on to win the contest.

In the fourth play-off, ‘SwingKKings’ beat ‘Birdie Machine’ by three points.  The winners tallied 9.5 points to ‘Birdie Machine’s’  6.5 points.  The first match in this contest was tied.  ‘SwingKKings’ won the second, but ‘Birdie Machine’ came back to win the third match.  ‘SwingKKings’ then registered wins in the fourth and fifth matches. ‘Birdie Machine’ won the  sixth match but ‘SwingKKings’ finished off in style with a win in the seventh and final match.

In the fifth and final play-off of the day, ‘The Pioneers’ romped to win over ‘Eagles & Birdies’ with a tally of 13 points as against their opponent’s total of 3.5 points. The first match was won by ‘The Pioneers’ but ‘Eagles & Birdies’ came back to win the second.  ‘The Pioneer’ pulled one back in the third match and the fourth was tied.  Thereafter ‘The Pioneers’ went on a rampage to win the remaining three matches.

With 22 teams and 12 days of action to go in the round-robin stage, the field is very open and golf lovers are in for some scintillating golf.  The League, being played at the historic par-72 Delhi Golf Club course, features 15 days of hard-fought golf and will conclude in a Grand Finale on November 4, 2023.  

The tournament is being played on a ‘Four-ball better-ball Matchplay’ Format.  The League will be played in two stages – a Round Robin stage followed by a Knock-out stage. During each playoff match between two teams, each team will field 7 pairs (14 players). One pair from each team will play against a pair from the other team in a “Four-ball better-ball” Matchplay format with all the players playing off 75% of their original handicaps. The teams will get points for their wins. The 22 teams have been divided into 4 groups. After the Round Robin stage, 2 teams from each group will qualify for the Knock-out stage starting with the Quarter-finals.  The Finals will be played on November 4, 2023.

SwingKKings  (9.5 pts.) bt. Birdie Machine  (6.5  pts.)

The Pioneers (113) bt. Eagles & Birdies (3.5).
