New Delhi: Railway Sports Promotion Board defeated Petroleum Sports Promotion Board in the Final of the 2nd Hockey India Senior Men Inter-Department National Championship 2022, New Delhi on Saturday. Championship hosted by Petroleum Sports Promotion Board.

Services Sports Control Board claimed third place in the competition with a win against Punjab National Bank in the 3rd/4th place match.

Former Indian Captains Harbinder Singh, Ajit Pal Singh and zafar Iqbal gave away the Prizes. Ajit Pal said, “Indian hockey has started doing well at international level but we don’t have big pool of players at the National level. We must have 200 to 300 players for the selection of Indian team.”

He also stressed that, ” Press should play big role in giving coverage to hockey tournaments.”

Zafar Iqbal congratulated all the players and praised Petroleum Sports Promotion Board for organizing the hockey tournament. Former India players Romeo James and Vineet Kumar were also present.During the tournament former Olympian Ashok Kumar also came to watch young players.

Lalit kumar Watts, Adviser and Gautam Vadera, Joint Secretary Petroleum Sports Promotion Board thanked all the stakeholders.

In the Final, Railway Sports Promotion Board defeated Petroleum Sports Promotion Board 3-1 in the Shootout after both teams were tied at 3-3 in the regulation time. Pardeep Singh (9′), Joginder Singh (34′) and Yuvraj Walmiki (45′) scored goals for Railway Sports Promotion Board. Ankit Pal (7′, 12′) and Gurjinder Singh (56′) struck goals for Petroleum Sports Promotion Board in what seemed to be a closely contested affair.

In the shootout, Pardeep Singh, Parampreet Singh and Gursahibjit Singh scored goals for Railway Sports Promotion Board. On the other hand, Araijeet Singh Hundal, Talwinder Singh and Ankit Pal failed to score goals for Petroleum Sports Promotion Board. The star of the shootout was Goalkeeper Prashant Kumar Chauhan who went on to save 3 goals during the shootout.

Speaking after the Final, Railway Sports Promotion Board coach Sunil Kumar Singh said, “We had done a lot of hardwork and it paid off in the Final. Our players played brilliantly against a top side like Petroleum Sports Promotion Board who have some really good players in their team. We were not under any kind of pressure before the match and executed our plans to perfection on the pitch to win the trophy.”

In the 3rd/4th place playoff match earlier in the day, Services Sports Control Board registered a 1-0 win against Punjab National Bank.

Harman Singh (56′) scored the only goal of the match for Services Sports Control Board.
