New Delhi: In an extraordinary moment, Ritesh Dogra, a student of the esteemed  coach Dronacharya Bhupender Dhawan, made history by securing 2 gold medals and 1 silver medal in the Pro Olympia Powerlifting Championship held in Orlando, USA, on November 4th, 2023. This remarkable feat adds to the limited number of Indian gold medalists in the Pro Olympia Powerlifting, with Mukesh Singh in 2017 and now Ritesh Dogra joining this esteemed group. Notably, Ritesh has surpassed his predecessor by winning three medals in a single year. Both Mukesh and Ritesh have had the privilege of being mentored by Dronacharya Bhupender Dhawan.

These incredible medals hold a deep significance as they are dedicated to the Khelo India and Fit India movements by our Honorable Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi. Ritesh’s outstanding performance led him to secure the 1st place in the 90kg Class, with an impressive total lift of 767.5kg. He faced a fierce competition from Roberto Correa, hailing from Chile, who had an identical weight lifted. However, due to Ritesh’s lower body weight of 86kg, he emerged victorious and claimed the gold medal.

In the Raw Bench Press competition, Santiago Ruiz from Colombia triumphed with a gold medal, showcasing a total lift of 180kg, while Ritesh Dogra of India showcased his prowess by lifting 175kg, earning him a deserving silver medal. Moving on to the 90kg Class Open Raw Deadlift, Ritesh Dogra exhibited his utmost strength and determination, achieving his personal best lift of 302.5kg, ultimately securing the 1st place and setting a new record. Santiago Ruiz from Colombia earned the silver medal in this category, lifting an impressive 290kg.

Ritesh Dogra’s exceptional performance in the Pro Olympia Powerlifting Championship is a testament to his dedication, skill, and relentless training. His achievements bring immense pride to India and serve as an inspiration to aspiring athletes across the nation.
